Stefan Chychula

Stefan Chychula [Стефaн Чичулa], (b. February 26, 1920, in the village of Dnistryk-Dubovyi, Lviv region, Ukraine; d. June 12, 1986, in Chicago, IL). Lover and promoter of Ukrainian church singing. He studied at the Gymnasium in Peremyshl, where he earned his degree in 1939. Afterwards, he settled in Vienna and started a family. There he sang under the direction of Andrij Hnatyshyn at St. Barbara Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vienna. He left Austria in 1950 and immigrated to America, arriving at the port of  New York. From there he moved to Chicago, IL, where he found work as a draftsman. He also became an active member of the local church choirs: Sts. Volodymyr and Olha, St. Nicholas Cathedral, as well as the “Slavuta” Choir directed by Yuri Yarymovich. He was also a friend and colleague of composer Myron Fedoriv.
