Msgr. Anthony Borsa

Msgr. Anthony Borsa [Антін Борса], (b. December 20, 1905, in the village of Tovstenka, Kopychynetsky (now Husyatynskyi), Ternopil, Ukraine; d. March 12, 1997, in Aberdeen, NJ). Borsa was graduated from the Chortkiv Gymnasium and the Stanislaviv Theological Seminary in Ivano-Frankivsk. He was ordained in 1932. In 1936, he immigrated to the United States, and served at many parishes from North Dakota to New Jersey, and places in between. From 1955 to 1958, he was the pastor at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, PA, which at that time had a choir of 100 voices. From 1959 to 1975, he was at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jersey City, NJ. In addition to his pastoral duties, he was head of diocesan choir directors, instructor of ritual music at St. Basil’s Seminary in Stamford, CT, and spiritual director of the Providence Association. He died in Aberdeen, NJ, on March 12, 1997, and is buried at Holy Ghost Cemetery in Hamptonburgh, NY.
