Myron Fedoriv

Myron Fedoriv [Мирон Федорів], (b. 1907 in Kryve, Lviv oblast, Ukraine; d. December 23, 1996, in Philadelphia, PA). Composer, choir director, and musicologist. During his lifetime, he was recognized as a leading authority on the liturgical chants of western Ukraine, especially those of the Transcarpathian region. He is remembered also for his many compositions for the church, including several Masses. In the 1930s and 1940s, he studied music at conservatories in Poland and Austria. He came to America after WWII, and settled in Connecticut, where he taught music at St. Basil College in Stamford, CT. After that, he lived and worked in Chicago. He retired from teaching in 1979 and moved to Philadelphia, where he died on December 23, 1996, at age 89.
