Walter Bohonos

Walter Bohonos [Володимир Богонос] (b. 1913 in St. Julian, Saskatchewan; d. 1997 in Winnipeg, Manitoba). Born in St. Julian, Saskatchewan, he moved in 1919 with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He received his musical training at the University of Toronto. From 1946 onward, Bohonos was the voice teacher and instructor of liturgical music at St. Andrew’s College, the Orthodox seminary located in Winnipeg. He was also the choir director at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Winnipeg, and later at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. He is remembered also as the founder and director of the Ukrainian Male Chorus, which won awards for three consecutive years at the Manitoba Music Festival.
