George Hnatiuk

George Hnatiuk [Юрій Гнaтюк], (b. April 30, 1921, in Lachiwtzi (now the Ivano-Frankivsk region), Ukraine; d. November 5, 2014, in Winnipeg, MB). Choir director beginning in the 1950s at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church [Покровa] on Boyd Avenue in Winnipeg. He came to Canada after the Second World War. He led several community choirs, including the “Surma” Male Chorus (1952-1957), the men’s chorus of the Koshetz Choir, and the Ukrainian Millennium Choir. During his 40 years as a church cantor, he participated in over 700 memorial services [Пaнхидa].
