Antin Kohut

Antin Kohut [Антін Когут], (b. 1893 in Hrabovets, Ternopil, Ukraine; d. 1969 in Youngstown, OH). After studying to be a cantor in Romanivka and later in Lviv, Antin Kohut came to America in 1912 and settled in Pennsylvania, where his first choirs were in the coal mining towns of Glen Lyon and Nanticoke. By 1917, he was working in Bayonne, NJ, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. Then in 1924, Kohut moved to Youngstown, OH, where he became the choir director at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. After a brief time in Cleveland at SS. Peter and Paul (1928-1938), he returned to Youngstown, where he remained until his death in 1969.
