Ivan Kozachok

Ivan Kozachok [Іван Козачок], (b. 1921 in Kremianets, Volyn, Ukraine; d. May 15, 2013, in Montreal, Quebec). Choir director for many years at St. Mary the Protectress Church in Montreal, Quebec. Having completed his studies in liturgical music at the local Orthodox Monastery of the Annunciation, Kozachok began his conducting career in 1945 in Salzburg, Austria. In 1949, he left Europe and settled in Montreal, where he apprenticed with the famous choir director Nestor Horodovenko. Besides his duties at the church, Kozachok led community choirs, such as “Молода Україна” (ODUM) and “Україна” Men’s Chorus (UNF). He retired from directing in 1997 and died in Montreal on May 15, 2013, at the age of 92.
