
Leontiy Krushelnytsky [Леонтій Крyшелницький], (b. October 27, 1905, in Stara Yahilnytsia, Ternopil, Ukraine; d. October 22, 1982, in New York). He was educated in Ivano-Frankivsk and in Lviv and became a lawyer. In the 1930s, he joined the choir directed by Dmytro Kotko. Afterwards, he established his own choirs in Ukraine and Austria. Upon arriving in America in 1949, he settled in New York City and founded the Dumka Chorus. He was also the choir director of the “Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky Choir” at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. In 1959, he worked together with A. Osadsa and A. Rudnytsky to form the “Union of Ukrainian Choirs of America” (СУХА), a national organization to promote Ukrainian choral art in this country.
