Rev. Mykola Kumanovsky

Rev. Mykola Kumanovsky [Миколa Кумaновський], (b. 1846 in the village of Ivane-Zolote, Ternopil oblast, Ukraine; d. November 18, 1927, in Nimshyn, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, Ukraine). He was graduated from Lviv Theological Seminary in 1880 and became a priest. He had a love for sacred choral music as well as Ukrainian folk songs; and like D. Sichynsky and I. Vorobkevych, he was a proponent of the zither—the home instrument of choice at that time. Rev. Kumanovsky was among the many amateur musicians who during the 19th and early 20th centuries wrote music, performed in concerts, and directed choirs. Together they contributed greatly to the musical development of western Ukraine.
