Stanislav Lyudkevych [Станіслав Людкевич], (b. January 24, 1879, in Yaroslav, Austria-Hungary; d. September 10, 1979, in Lviv, Ukraine). Lyudkevych was born in 1879 in the town of Yaroslav in Austria-Hungary (present day Southeast Poland). Under the guidance of his parents, both of whom were musically inclined, he developed an interest in music early in life. He received formal training in composition in Lviv and in Vienna. In 1903, he collaborated with Vakhnianyn and Barvinsky to organize the Lysenko Higher Musical Institute in Lviv. He served there for many years—first as a faculty member and later as the institute’s director. In addition, he was the choir director for the Lviv “Boyan” singing society. Lyudkevych lived to be 100 years old. He is buried in the famous Lychakiv Cemetery.
