Rev. Stephen Musiychuk

Rev. Stephen Musiychuk [о. Степан Мусійчук], (b. January 7, 1894 in Korshiv, Kolomiyya, Ivano-Frankivk, Ukraine; d. October 2, 1952, in Sharon, PA). Priest, composer, playwright, and poet. Fr. Musiychuk came to America in 1911, settling first in Brooklyn, NY and then later moved to Chicago, IL. He was ordained an Orthodox priest in 1930. In his first decade as a priest, he led the Bandurist Choir at Holy Trinity Church in Buffalo, NY, and later the Lysenko Choir at Holy Ascension in Passaic, NJ. In the 1940s, he relocated to Youngstown, OH, and finally Sharon, PA and New Castle, PA. At each of these parishes, he shared his love of Ukrainian music by organizing the people of the congregation into choirs and drama groups for the purpose of staging choral concerts and operettas.
