Rev. Ostap Nyzhankivsky [Остап Нижанківський], (b. January 24, 1862 in Mali Didushych, Lviv, Ukraine; d. May 22, 1919 in Stryi, Lviv, Ukraine). Composer, conductor, and Greek-Catholic priest from Western Ukraine. Nyzhankivsky was born in 1862 near Lviv in the village of Mali Didushych. He finished Theological Seminary in Lviv and was ordained a Greek-Catholic priest in 1892. After his graduation from the Prague Conservatory of Music, and he dedicated much of his energy to developing musical life in Halychyna. In 1885, he founded the musical publishing house “Musical Library”. He organized choral concert tours throughout the region and established Boyan singing societies in a number of cities: Berezhany (1892), Lviv (1895-1896), and Stryi (1900–1914).
