Michael Prosak

Michael Prosak [Михайло Просак], (b. June 6, 1916, in Northampton, Pennsylvania; d. January 16, 2005, in Cape Coral, Florida). Longtime cantor and choir director at two Ukrainian Greek Catholic churches in Pennsylvania. His parents came to America from Western Ukraine and joined the congregation of St. John the Baptist UGCC in Northampton, PA. As a youth, he sang in the church choir under the direction of Zenon Hradkowsky (1888-1968). He learned about choral conducting from Hradkowsky and received additional musical training in theory and voice at the Homer Nearing School of Music. Eventually, he was asked to direct the choir at St. Vladimir GCC in the nearby town of Palmerton, PA (1937-1977). In 1975, he was invited back to his home parish of St. John’s in Northampton where he remained as their director for the next 25 years. He was also the founder and director of the Lehigh Valley Ukrainian Millennium Choir, a concert choir organized in 1987. The group was comprised of singers from local churches. In 1999, after six decades of dedication to the church, he retired and moved to Cape Coral, Florida.
