Walter Pypiuk

Walter Pypiuk [Володимир Пипюк], (b. May 23, 1911; d. Apr. 14, 1972, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania). Son of Rev. Hryhorij Pypiuk. Volodymyr, also known as Walter, was an advocate for choral music and was active with the Ukrainian Male Chorus of the Lehigh Valley back in the 1940s and 1950s. The chorus, based in Northampton, PA, was founded in 1948 and remained active for the next three decades. They gave hundreds of concerts of folk songs and religious songs all across Pennsylvania and other states. In the early days, the director was Oleksij Diduch. Walter Dworakivsky succeeded him around 1958. The scores that the singers used were handwritten by the group’s president, Walter Pypiuk. He signed all his work with the initials “В[олодимир] П[ипюк].”
