Theodore Ratzin

Theodore (Frank) Ratzin [Теодор Рацинь], (b. 1879; d. 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, PA). Choir director and cantor at St. Mary’s Greek Catholic Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, from 1914 to 1930. He served at other Byzantine churches as well, including St. Michael’s in Passaic, NJ. Professor Ratzin received his musical training in Europe. His published works include a Divine Liturgy for mixed choir (1920), and a collection of chant melodies called “Prostopinije” (Wilkes-Barre, 1925). He died in 1930 and is buried at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Dallas, PA. His son Anthony and grandson Theodore also became cantors.
