Mykyta Skrypnyk

Mykyta Skypnyk [Микитa Скрипник], (b. April 1, 1900, in Western Ukraine; d. February 18, 1984, in California). Skrypnyk was born in 1900 in Western Ukraine and spent time after WWII in a German DP camp known as Bleidorn-Kaserne in the town of Ansbach. He came to America in 1950 and made his home in Detroit, where he became the director of St. Andrew’s choir. He was influenced by other composers such as Leontovych, Stetsenko, and Koshetz, who wrote liturgical music specifically for the Ukrainian language. After his time in Detroit, he relocated to Denver, CO, and finally to Los Angeles, CA, where he died in 1984. Both he and his wife Tatiana are buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA.
