Mary Tkachuk

Mary Tkachuk [Марія Ткaчyк], (b. March 6, 1912, in Mundare, AB; d. April 28, 2003, in Saskatoon, SK). Choir director, businesswoman, and community leader for over 70 years. Born in Mundare, Alberta, and educated in Edmonton, she and her husband moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1935 and opened Paul’s Music Store, which became a center for musical activity in the Ukrainian community. The store served as the main outlet for music books and instruments of all kinds, including banduras. From 1955 to 1973, she directed the choir at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Saskatoon, SK. One of the highlights of her career was traveling with her choir to Montreal in 1967 to perform at Expo 67.
