Yaroslav Yaroslavenko

Yaroslav Yaroslavenko [Ярослав Ярославенко], (b. March 30, 1880 in Jarosław, Halychyna, Ukraine; d. June 26, 1958 in Lviv Ukraine). Composer, conductor, and music publisher. Yaroslavenko was born on March 30, 1880, in Halychyna in the town of Jarosław. His parents were writers and poets. They enrolled him in the Lviv Conservatory for his musical training. After graduation, he composed music and directed the choirs “Sokil” and “Zorya.” In 1906, he co-founded the Lviv publishing house “Torban” and served as its director for thirty years. During his career, he wrote a number of memorable songs, including “Зa Укрaїнy,” and “Гей, плaстyни!” and “Цвіт Укрaїни,” the two anthems used by the PLAST scouting organization. He died in Lviv on June 26, 1958.
