Rev. Volodymyr Zolkewych

Rev. Volodymyr Zolkewych [o. Володимир Жолкевич], (b. 1906 in Serafyntsi; d. 1985 in Toronto, Ontario). Ukrainian Catholic priest ordained in 1936. Studied music at the Lysenko Music Institute in Lviv. Entered the Theological Seminary and conducted the student choir. During the early 1930s, he led the choir in performances in cities and towns throughout Halychyna. Left Ukraine in 1944 for Vienna (St. Barbara UCC) and later Paris (Sts. Volodymyr and Olha UCC). Emigrated from France in 1950 and settled in western Canada, serving in communities around Edmonton—Manly, Radway, and Smoky Lake. He was transferred in 1956 to St. Nicholas UCC in Toronto. Organized the women’s choir “Arfa.” Reassigned to SS. Peter and Paul UCC in Scarborough from 1962 to 1966, and finally Holy Protection (Покровa) UCC from 1966 to 1985. In 1969, he organized the concert in Rome to mark the consecration of the Ukrainian Cathedral of St. Sophia. Appeared along with Ivan Kovaliv, Myroslaw Antonowycz, Halyna Kvitka Kondracki, and Mykhailo Dobosh.
