
Wasyl Ptashynsky [Василь Пташинський], (b. Aug. 14, 1909, Western Ukraine; d. April 7, 1987), Ukrainian composer and choir director who came to America and settled in Newark, New Jersey. His career was largely spent conducting and composing choral music. During the Second World War, he was a refugee in a displaced persons camp in Bayreuth, Germany. In 1949, he immigrated to America and settled at first in Chester, PA. He moved later to the New Jersey area, where he served as choirmaster at Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He passed away in Irvington in 1987 and is buried at St. Andrew Cemetery in South Bound Brook, NJ.
