Michael Fatiuk [Михайло Фатюк], (b. 1883 in Nosiv [Носів], Pidhaitsi [Підгайці], Ternopil Oblast; d. 1961 in Yonkers, NY). Director of the “Boyan” Choir at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers, New York, from 1919 until his retirement in 1960. He served the parish for 40 years as their cantor, choir director, and Ukrainian School teacher. Professor Fatiuk was schooled in church music from an early age by the cantors in his village. When he came to America in 1913, he continued his studies with Theodore Kaskiw, who directed the choir at St. John the Baptist in Newark, New Jersey. He had a fine tenor voice and performed often as a soloist. He sang at Carnegie Hall in 1935 with the United Metropolitan Ukrainian Chorus under the direction of Alexander Koshetz. After Professor Fatiuk passed away in 1961, Dr. Oleh Sohan took over as the choir director at St. Michael’s.
