Walter Klymkiw

Walter Klymkiw [Володимир Климків], (b. October 3, 1926, in Saranchuky, Ukraine; d. December 4, 2000, in Winnipeg, Manitoba). Educator and longtime conductor of the Koshetz Choir of Winnipeg. Born in Ukraine, Walter moved to Winnipeg in 1928 and completed his studies. He studied Ukrainian culture, music and choral conducting during the summer courses taught by Alexander Koshetz. Dr. Paul Macenko and Tetiana Koshetz also influenced and encouraged him during those formative years. Then in 1951, Walter became the conductor of Winnipeg’s Ukrainian National Federation Choir, which later became known as the Koshetz Choir. He continued leading the choir until his death in 2000.
