Basil Romanyshyn

Basil Romanyshyn [Василь Романишин], (b: Oct. 14, 1915, in Allentown, PA; d: Dec. 28, 2016, in New Britain, CT). Choir director for 50 years at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in New Britain, Connecticut. He was born in 1915 to Ukrainian parents who were residing at the time in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The family moved back to Ukraine where Basil received training in church singing at a young age. He worked there as a choir director until 1933 and then moved back to the United States to become the choir director at St. Mary’s Church. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Second World War, he returned to New Britain to continue in his position as director of the choir.
