Peter Shawinsky

Peter Shawinsky [Петро Шaвинський], (b: 1882 in the Western Ukrainian village of Ruda, Львівської області; d: ca. 1960s), cantor and choir director at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. He came to America in 1908 and settled in Jersey City, where he served as the cantor-teacher at SS. Peter and Paul throughout the 1920s. He moved to Stamford, Connecticut, around 1929 and became the choir director for the parish of St. Vladimir UCC. He stayed there until sometime in the 1950s, when he was replaced by director Peter Koczanki.
