
Peter Stryzowec [Петро Стрижовець], (b. 1902 in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, Volyn oblast, Ukraine; d. September 1, 1979, in Toronto, Canada). Choir director at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Troy, NY. As a young boy, he learned the art of church singing from the choir director at his local church. He also sang in several community choirs and organized his own theater group which gave performances throughout the region. In 1944, he was forced to leave his homeland for the safety of the DP camp in Regensburg, Germany. Then in 1955, he came to America and lived a short time in Philadelphia, PA, and Irvington, NJ, before establishing himself as the choir director at St. Nicholas in Troy, NY. He passed away in 1979 and is buried at York Cemetery in Toronto.
