
Nicholas Zapuchliak [Миколa Зaпухляк], (b. 1894 in the village of Poberezhya [Побережжя]; d. April 16, 1980, in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin). Ukrainian choir director and cantor. After arriving in the U.S. in 1924, he moved to Ontario and became a Canadian citizen. In the early 1930s, he directed the church choir at an Orthodox parish in Fort William, Ontario (St. Volodymyr). He returned to the U.S. in 1936 and continued to lead choirs in Cleveland, OH (St. Vladimir), Rome, NY (St. Nicholas), Troy, NY (St. Nicholas), and Chicago, IL (SS. Peter and Paul). He passed away on April 16, 1980, in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and was laid to rest in Chicago’s Mount Hope Cemetery.
