Zlochowsky, Rev. Zenon

Rev. Zenon Zlochowsky [о. Зенон Злочовський], (b. 1916 in Nova Kamianka [Нова Кам’янка, Жовківського повіту]; d. December 16, 1994, in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania). Ukrainian Catholic priest and prolific composer of sacred music. He composed 40 volumes of music for the church, including liturgies, tropars, triodes, menaea, funerals, antiphons, and communion hymns in Church Slavonic and in Ukrainian. Educated in Rava-Ruska [Рaвa-Руськa], and later in Zhovkva. In 1935, he entered the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Peremyshl where part of his musical training included singing in the choir directed by Volodymyr Bozhyk. His ordination took place in 1940. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1977, then to the Philadelphia area, where in 1979 he was assigned to the church of St. Michael the Archangel in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. He passed away in 1994 and is buried in Philadelphia.
