Yaroslav Barnych

Yaroslav Barnych [Ярослав Барнич], (b. September 30, 1896, in Balyntsi, Kolomyia, Halychyna, Ukraine; d. June 1, 1967, in Cleveland, OH). Musician, composer, and orchestra conductor in Europe, Canada, and the U.S. He is best known as the composer of the popular song “Hutsulka Ksenia.” He came to America in 1949 and settled in Cleveland, OH, where he founded and directed the Shevchenko Ukrainian National Chorus. He served briefly as choir director of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (Cleveland) from 1964-1965.
