
Theodore Hoptiak [Теодор Хоптяк], (b. 1876 in western Ukraine; d. 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA), former choirmaster at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv. He immigrated to the United States around the time of World War I. In the 1920s, he opened a music studio in Chicago where he taught piano and violin. He later moved to Buffalo, New York, serving as the choir director at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church from 1932 to 1938. Afterward, he relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to direct the choir at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. His wife’s name was Maria, and together they had two sons: Theodore and Boris, both of whom became choir directors (Carnegie, PA and New Britain, CT).
