Platonida Schurovska-Rossinevych

Platonida Schurovska-Rossinevych [Платоніда Щуровська-Россіневич], (b. Apr. 20, 1893, in Vorobienka [в селі Воробієнці на Черкащині]; d. Nov. 20, 1973, in Prague). The first professional female choral conductor in Ukraine. A representative of the Kyiv choral school. Student of Oleksandr Koshetz and assistant to him as director the Ukrainian Republic Chapella.  She directed several Ukrainian choirs in Prague and Poděbrady and became a professor of music. Among her students were composer Mykola Kolessa, musicologist and conductor Pavlo Matsenko (Canada), choir director Danylo Petrivsky (USA), and bandurist Vasyl Yemets. She passed away in 1973 and is buried in St. Andrew’s Cemetery in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.
