Anatol Hnojewyj [Анатол Гноєвий], (b. 1926 in Ukraine; d. 1996 in Minneapolis, MN). A chemist by profession, but also a violinist and lover of fine choral music. He is known for compiling numerous volumes of liturgical music, including a comprehensive series of scores for the various offices of the church: Divine Liturgy, Vespers, Matins, Moleben, and Panakhyda. Anatol Hnojewyj was born in 1926 in Ukraine and came to Minneapolis in 1949, along with his friend and colleague Danylo Petrivsky. Professor Petrivsky served as the choir director at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, MN, from 1949 to 1981. Hnojewyj succeeded him and continued in that capacity until his death in 1996.
