Rev. Volodymyr Sluzar [о. Володимир Слузар], (b. 1895 in Chunkiv, Bukovyna, Ukraine; d. 1976 in Montreal, Quebec). First and long-time pastor of St. Sophie Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Montreal, Quebec. In addition to being an ordained priest, Rev. Sluzar was also a great choral conductor. The church choir under his leadership earned a reputation for excellence. He was born in 1895 in Chunkiv, Bukovyna, and emigrated to Canada in 1923. He became a priest shortly after and served in several parishes in Saskatchewan before moving to Montreal to establish the church of St. Sophie–the first Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Eastern Canada–in 1926. He served for forty-eight years, and died in 1976.
