Rev. Anthony Stangry

Rev. Anthony Stangry [Прот. Антоній Станґритчyк], (b. January 28, 1896, in Ukraine; d. September 18, 1974, in Lake Worth, FL). First cantor at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Cleveland (today located in Parma, OH) and director of the parish choir “Bandurist.” He was born in Ukraine in 1896 and came to America in 1913. He was ordained a priest in 1935 and assigned to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Johnson City, NY. Afterwards, he served in other communities: Youngstown, OH; Philadelphia, PA; Detroit, MI; Lorain, OH; and New Castle, PA. During his pastoral career, he prepared a number of music books for the Ukrainian Orthodox League. Rev. Stangry retired in 1967 and moved to Florida, where he passed away.

1924-1933: Cantor and choir director at St. Vladimir UOC (Cleveland, OH).

1935: Ordained a priest.

1935-1941: Pastor at St. John the Baptist UOC (Johnson City, NY).

1941-1948: Pastor at SS. Peter and Paul UOC (Youngstown, OH).

1948-1950: Pastor at St. Vladimir UOC (Philadelphia, PA).

1950-1953 Pastor (Detroit, MI).

1953-1963: Pastor at St. Mary UOC (Lorain, OH).

1963-1967: Pastor at Holy Trinity UOC (New Castle, PA).
