Theodore Onufryk

Theodore Onufryk [Теодор Онуфрик], (b: May 25, 1891, in Western Ukraine; d: Sept. 17, 1987, in New York, NY). He received his musical training at conservatories in Vienna and Lviv. Before the outbreak of WWI, he left Ukraine and immigrated to New York City, where in 1919 he became the choir director at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. He succeeded in developing one of the best choral ensembles in the city. Under his leadership, the choir sang in places like St. Patrick’s Cathedral (1942), Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, and Madison Square Garden.
