
Volodymyr Bozhyk [Володимир Божик], (b. Dec. 27, 1908, in Rava Ruska, Ukraine; d. in Los Angeles, CA), one of the early directors of the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus. He studied voice and choral conducting at the Lviv Conservatory. In 1940, he was installed as the artistic director for the opera house in Stanislaviv (today Ivano-Frankivsk). He joined the Bandurist Chorus in 1946 and co-directed the ensemble with Hyhory Kytasty. Bozhyk came to America in 1949. Under the leadership of Kytasty and Bozhyk, the Bandurist Chorus gave performances throughout North America and Europe. After a short time directing the choir at St. Josaphat’s in Rochester (1959), he moved to California where he became the choirmaster for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary UCC and the “Kobzar” Ukrainian National Choir.
