
Theodore Hoptiak [Теодор Хоптяк], (b. 1876 in western Ukraine; d. 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA), former choir director for the cathedral of St. George in Lviv. He came to America sometime during the First World War. In the 1920s, he opened a music studio in Chicago, and offered lessons in piano and violin. He relocated to Buffalo, NY, serving briefly (1932) as choir director at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. From Buffalo, he moved the family to the Pittsburgh area. His wife’s name was Maria, and together they had two sons: Theodore and Boris. Both sons directed choirs (Carnegie, PA; New Britain, CT).
