
Ihor Sonevytsky [Ігор Соневицький], (b. Jan. 2, 1926, in the village of Hadynkivtsi [с. Гадинківці], Chortkiv Raion, Ternopil Oblast; d. Dec. 23, 2006, Lexington, New York.) Composer, pianist, teacher, and musicologist. Studied at the Lysenko Higher Music Institute (Lviv), the Music Academy (Vienna), and the State Music Academy (Munich). Immigrated to the United states in the 1950s. Directed the “Dumka” Chorus of New York (1959-61) and the “Trembita” Choir of Newark, New Jersey. Founder of the Ukrainian Music Institute of America (New York). Founder of the annual Ukrainian music festival in Hunter, New York.
