Alexander Drozdiak

Alexander Drozdiak [Олександр Дроздяк], (b. Dec. 1, 1885, in Koroleva Ruska [Королева Руська]; d. March 14, 1947, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania). He studied music at two of the leading conservatories in Austria-Hungary: the Nowy Sącz Academy and the Pryzemysl School. He came to the U.S. in 1909 and settled in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, where he was hired as the cantor and teacher at SS. Peter and Paul Church (1911-1913). Next, he directed the choir at St. Mary Greek Catholic Church in McKees Rocks, PA. Then in 1919, he relocated to Shamokin, PA, to become the choirmaster at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Transfiguration. His choir participated many times in the annual “Ukrainian Day” at Lakewood Park (located near Mahanoy City and Hazelton).
